First Growth of the Languedoc, Mas de Daumas Gassac Wine Tasting Evening

What wine with no appellation is being considered by the wine experts as “The only Grand Cru of the Midi (South of France)” – Hugh Johnson, “A Lafite in Languedoc” – Gault & Millau; “One of the 10 best wines in the world” – Michael Broadbent, or simply “Exceptional” – R. Parker.

Within 30 years the Mas de Daumas Gassac wines have reached the rare status of “cult wine” that is only given to a few exceptional estates.

Rare Grape Varieties: with 40 different grape varieties planted in the valley, the vineyard is like a museum of rare and un-cloned vines from all over the world: Israel, Portugal, Switzerland, Armenia, Madeira…
Categorically, Gassac could be an appellation of its own with so much diversity.

A Distinct blend and taste: The wines are vinified from a number of grape varieties from the world.- The Mas de Daumas Gassac Grand Cru red is made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tannat, Nebiolo, Dolcetto… which will remind one of a great Médoc when young whilst, as it ages, becomes reticent of the undergrowth and truffles found in vintage Burgundies.

- No other white wine can offer such a unique blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Chenin Blanc and Petit Manseng (20% of each) plus 15 other grape varieties representing some of the most famous wine regions (Burgundy, Rhone Valley, Loire Valley & Jurançon) of France.

An Extraordinary ability to age: the wines have an amazing ability to stand through the years and keep an outstanding youth after ten, twenty even thirty years. In fact, a special polyphenol that has only been found at Gassac keeps the red wine vibrant and youthful after 25 years.

With the specific soil of the Gassac valley, a very cool microclimate, more than forty different grape varieties and winemaking, ageing techniques inspired by the great Bordeaux, the wines from Daumas Gassac are incomparable to any other and have established a style of their own.

For this reason, wine writers and wine connoisseurs have crowned Mas de Daumas Gassac “The Grand Cru of the Midi”.

Recaredo CAVA x Tastings Wine Bar

In 1878, Recaerdo Mata Figueres was born in the town of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia. In 1924, his son, Josep Mata Capellades, began to work in the world of cava and produce some bottles. It was the founder of Cavas Recaredo. “Can Recaredo”, in the historic centre of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia. Some parts of the cellars are over 80 years old, and have been conserved retaining their original form. It was Josep Mata Capellades who forged Recaredo’s identity, based on know-how, professionalism and hard work. He marked the way forward in his own style, being a pioneer in the production of totally dry cavas, the Cavas Brut Nature, in working with oak barrels and in longer – aged cavas. Currently, the third generation is at the forefront of Cava Recaredo.
